Kathmandu: As many as 10,000 observers are going to observe the November 20 polls, said Chief Election Observer Dinesh Thapaliya.

Addressing the Election Commission-Citizen Dialogue program organized by Tanka Prasad Memorial Trust in the capital on Sunday, the chief election Commissioner informed that there will be a total of 46 organizations–43 based in Nepal and three from abroad –are going to observe elections. According to him, a team of six chief election commissioners from six different foreign countries are coming for a one-day observation.

“Around 24 diplomatic missions based in Kathmandu have expressed interest in election observation. We will initiate the process for this from Monday,” he said. “Around 10,000 observers are expected to be mobilized for poll observation.”

So that election observers would be concentrated only in major cities like Kathmandu, with few of them in remote locations, the poll body is working to ensure at least one observer in each poll booth. “The commission is trying to ensure that there will be at least one observer in each election booth,” he informed.
